The Blackbutt is a fine tuned blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Malbec (14%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Merlot (1%) from the oldest blocks of estate grown fruit. The parcels are fermented separately in small open vats and hand plunged 3 times a day before pressing and maturation in French oak for 20 months.
A warm and sunny start to the 2010 vintage led to early flavour development at lower sugar levels, producing wines of great flavour while retaining delicacy and finesse.
Bright crimson with a garnet rim
Lifted aromas of cassis, tobacco and dried herbs
Complex flavours of cassis layered with earthy forest floor notes with a vibrant line of acidity that carries the dusty, fine grained tannin structure to an even, balanced finish.
Ready to enjoy now, but will gain further complexity over eight to ten years with careful cellaring.
ALKOOMI 2010 'BLACKBUTT' CABERNET BLEND
The Alkoomi vineyards and winery are located in the Frankland River district of Western Australia's Great Southern wine region. The name is taken from local aboriginal dialect and means 'a place we chose' and the logo represents the unique and distinctively Australian Grasstree, Xanthorrhoea preissii. The first plantings were in1971 and the region's long, cool ripening conditions are perfect for growing fruit of intense varietal character.
