Sourced from a single block of Riesling planted in 1971. The fruit is harvested in the early hours of the morning, pressed to tank keeping only the free run juice for this wine. No fining agents were used and mid palate texture was enhanced by some time on yeast lees.
A dry Winter and fleeting Spring was followed by a warm growing season with welcome rainfall in December and January leading to full, healthy canopies enabling excellent yields and great flavour development.
Brilliant pale straw with emerald flecks.
Lifted notes of citrus blossom, slate and hints of musk
Lively and concentrated citrus flavours continue on the palate with pure bright mineral acidity and a subtle textural length.
Whilst ready to drink now, this wine will gain in complexity over the next eight to ten years.
ALKOOMI 2016 'MELALEUCA' RIESLING
The Alkoomi vineyards and winery are located in the Frankland River district of Western Australia's Great Southern wine region. The name is taken from local aboriginal dialect and means 'a place we chose' and the logo represents the unique and distinctively Australian Grasstree, Xanthorrhoea preissii. The first plantings were in1971 and the region's long, cool ripening conditions are perfect for growing fruit of intense varietal character.
