We aim for an expressive, regionaly disctinctive wine with brambly red fruits
and hints of fresh bruised herbs, which reflect the land that produces this wine
Early morning harvesting ensures prime fruit ripeness.
2016 rainfall was the highest since 1992. A lot of the season’s rainfall was recorded
during July and September, resulting in saturated soil conditions at budburst.
Wet soils, combined with cold temperatures, resulted in slow shoot development
followed by dense canopies and delays in the time of flowering. The late flowering
and late veraison compared to vintage in the last decade. Interestingly, the timing of
vintage was similar to that experienced in early 90s. Weather conditions during fruit
ripening were quite dry and favoured full development of colour and flavour as there
were few periods of hot weather. Vintage was four weeks later but a long, dry Indian
summer ensured the opportunity to fully ripen crops.
This wine comes from our very own vineyard, located in the most northerly end of
the Adelaie Hills wine regions. The vines are tended gently, producing perfectly ripe,
healthy grapes with low yields, and harvested at precisely the right time to best
represent a “sense of place.”
The harvested fruit is destemmed and crushed into stainless steel tanks to optimise
colour and flavour. The ensuing wine then underwent malolactic fermentation and
maturation on a small percentage of seasoned French oak for a short time to add length
and spice. This results in a wine with purity of fruit that is unpretentious and eminently
satisfying to allow for regular indulgence.
MARLEY FARM 2016 PINOT NOIR
Light cherry in colour, this lovely Pinot has hints of strawberry, red plum and morello cherries on the nose. The flavours confirm the aromas, with a light, fresh palate of clean, soft fruit flavours. The wine is fresh, light and bright with delicate dry finish.
