PAST MASTER'S 1981 ESB
The Brew: Since 1845 every Fuller’s Head Brewer has kept a hand-written book of brews. The Past Masters series is a glimpse into our unique brewing history, recreating authentic beers from this rich archive of recipes. For the 9th beer in the Past Masters series, we have brewed something extra special to celebrate the career of legendary Fuller’s Head Brewer John Keeling, who retires in 2018.
1981 ESB is a full bodied, fruity beer brewed to the Extra Special Bitter recipe from 8th January 1981; John’s first day at Fuller’s 37 years ago.
Tasting Notes:
Rich ruby colour, aromas of candid orange peel from the unique Fuller’s yeast, balanced by toffee and biscuity notes from the malt. The hops impart grassy, peppery notes alongside hints of citrus fruit flavours. A smooth, delicate bitterness lingers on the palate to give a satisfying finish.
Hop Varieties: Target, Northdown, Challenger, Goldings
Malt: Pale Ale, Crystal, Flaked Maize
